چکیده

Time-resolved spectroscopy is employed to analyze micro plasma generated in laboratory air. Stark-broadened emission profiles for hydrogen alpha and beta allow us to determine plasma characteristics for specific time delays after plasma generation. Stark shift, asymmetry, and full width half maximum measurements are used to infer electron density. The measurements of hydrogen alpha and beta Balmer series line shapes are analyzed using various theory results. Our laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy arrangement uses a Qswitched Nd:YAG laser operating at the fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm that is focused for plasma generation. The hydrogen alpha and beta lines emerge from the free electron background radiation for time delays larger than 0.3 μs and 1.4 μs, respectively. Neutral and ionized nitrogen emission lines allow us to infer electron density for time delays from 0.1 to 10 μs. The electron density values are compared with results obtained from hydrogen Balmer series line shapes.

Atomic Hydrogen and Molecular Carbon Emissions in Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy

This article addresses hydrogen Balmer series measurements following laser-induced optical breakdown. Electron density on the order of 1 × 10 m−3 can be inferred using Hα Stark width and shift for plasma generated in 1 to 1.3 × 10 Pa, gaseous hydrogen. The Hβ line can be utilized for electron density up to 7 × 10 m−3. Laser ablation of aluminium reveals limits of application of the Balmer serie...

Measurement and analysis of atomic hydrogen and diatomic molecular AlO, C2, CN, and TiO spectra following laser-induced optical breakdown.

In this work, we present time-resolved measurements of atomic and diatomic spectra following laser-induced optical breakdown. A typical LIBS arrangement is used. Here we operate a Nd:YAG laser at a frequency of 10 Hz at the fundamental wavelength of 1,064 nm. The 14 nsec pulses with anenergy of 190 mJ/pulse are focused to a 50 µm spot size to generate a plasma from optical breakdown or laser ab...

Hydrogen Balmer Series Spectroscopy in Laser-induced Breakdown Plasmas

A review is presented of recent experiments and diagnostics based on Stark broadening of hydrogen Balmer lines in laser-induced optical breakdown plasmas. Experiments primarily utilize pulsed Nd:YAG laser radiation at 1064-nm and nominal 10 nanosecond pulse duration. Analysis of Stark broadening and shifts in the measured H-alpha spectra, combined with Boltzmann plots from H-alpha, H-beta and H...

Empirical Formulae for Electron Density Diagnostics from Hα and Hβ Line Profiles

We present empirical formulae for the electron density vs. line profile widths and shifts developed from precise measurements of hydrogen Balmer series alpha and beta emissions for diagnostics of laser-induced plasma. The formulae are for the Stark width and Stark red shift of the Hα line, as well as for the Stark width and peak separation of the Hβ line and are tested using measurements of Hα ...

Optical measurements of plasma velocity and temperature in a low-rate, low-power LPPS system

Low-pressure plasma spraying (LPPS) is a promising method of applying coatings to surfaces for thermal, chemical, and mechanical protection. The deposition of coatings with superior properties requires an improved understanding of this complex spray process, including the detailed understanding of the time–temperature and chemical history to which an injected particle is exposed during its trav...
